Q. How would you describe your style of teaching?
Above all else my goal is to keep the lessons fun and engaging, and hopefully inspire a lifelong love of music! I try to do this through fun projects like recording a holiday CD, writing original songs, and also introducing new music I think the students will enjoy. If they can look forward to listening, practicing, and creating as part of their weekly routine, that's all I can really hope for.
Justin is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter and guitarist best known for his narrative songwriting and sensitive approach to the guitar and lap steel. His debut album, Kanata (2022), was released independently in Canada and on Paraphenalia Records in Japan. The record garnered a passionate fanbase and made multiple year-end lists abroad. It features Canadian luminaries including Justin Haynes, Felicity Williams, Christine Bougie, and was produced by Jean Martin (Tanya Tagaq). He is currently working on a follow-up record to be released in 2025. In addition to his original music, Justin performs as a guitarist with John Southworth, Andrew Downing, Jessie Gosling, and many more, and works as a freelance media composer and songwriter, with a catalog of over 6 million+ streams. You can hear him live mostly at the Tranzac: every two months at the ongoing series “Justin Orok Presents…”, which is focused on presenting the music of emerging songwriters in a new light, as well as frequent appearances with the Holy Oak Family Singers.
